Vidya Balan gave five hits in a row with Paa, Ishqiya, The Dirty Picture, No One Killed Jessica and Kahaani. She also won Filmfare Award for her performances in these films and a national award additionally for The Dirty Picture. Amidst these successful projects, Vidya Balan recalls some of the previous mistakes made by her regarding the choices of the films.
Vidya Balan Doubts Her Choices For Flop Cinema
Days after her award winning streak for the film Kahaani, it opened to a warm response at the box office. Sunday collections were four times that of Friday. This was an unprecedented feat for a heroine centric film. Vidya Balan was declared as a ‘Shero’ and the ‘Fourth Khan’.
This was followed by a series of cinematic duds. Ghanchakkar, Shaadi Ke Side Effects and Bobby Jasoos could not make its mark and Vidya Balan began to doubt her choices.
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror dated November 5, 2016, Vidya says,
“Ghanchakkar was my first release after marriage and I felt guilty, personalizing its failure. Siddharth (Roy Kapur), more objective, told me it was ridiculous to feel that way.”
Vidya Balan decided not to work with her husband post this.
It Was An Emotionally Weak Phase
She took eight months to introspect on where she had gone wrong. She shares the emotions of her failure times.
“I went through the usual emotions of anger and fear before withdrawing into a shell and trying to figure out what had gone wrong, till I realized that despite the tags (attributed to her), success hadn’t been mine alone, so why should I hold myself responsible for the failure?”
These eight months were abuzz with her pregnancy rumors. Vidya kept mum on this and concentrated on her health issues. She consulted various doctors and every one advised her to take things easy.

Balan has successfully brought herself out of that situation. She is doing films at her pace and is eagerly looking forward for Kahaani sequel. She is much more confident than before and is prepared for failure.
Kahaani 2 is a directorial venture of Sujoy Ghosh starring Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal. The release is scheduled on December 2.
