All About Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt is an Indian actress of Hindi films. She first appeared in a minor role as a child artist in Sangharsh (1999). Coming to her adulthood, Alia made her debut with Student of the Year as a major role along with Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra.
Alia’s portrayal in Highway won her several appreciations. Alia Bhatt established her much prominent presence in Bollywood with 2 States, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya and Kapoor & Sons, all of which grossed to millions worldwide. Her recent Udta Punjab was also critically acclaimed.

Personal Life
Born on March 15, 1993to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan, Alia holds British nationality. Father Mahesh Bhatt belongs to Gujarati descent and mother is a Kashmiri and German ancestry. She has an elder sister Shaheen who born in 1988 and two half siblings Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt.
Producer Mukesh Bhatt is her uncle and actor Emraan Hashmi and director Mohit Suri are her paternal cousins.
Alia Bhatt studied at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai.
Career
As an actor
Alia Bhatt’s first acting role as a child artist was in Sangharsh (1999). Alia played the younger version of Preity Zinta. The film also starred Akshay Kumar.
Her first leading role came up with student of the Year in 2012 directed by Karan Johar and co-starred by two other debut actors Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan. She became a noticeable face in the industry since then onwards.
She became a prominent actress with three of her films in 2014. First was Imtiaz Ali’s Highway opposite Randeep Hooda. She played the protagonist who develops stockholm syndrome. Though the film did not perform well at the box office but Alia won the Filmfare best actress award and another nomination for best actress.
Next was Karan Johar’s and Sajid Nadiadwala’s co-production 2 States. Arjun Kapoor starred in the lead with Alia Bhatt. The film was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name. the film earned over 1.7 billion worldwide.
Alia’s 2014 final film was Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania with Varun Dhawan again. This was her second consecutive film to gross over 1 billion worldwide.
These 2014 accomplishments labeled her as the top Bollywood actress of 2014 by Box Office India.
Alia Bhatt also appeared in a short film Going Home directed by Vikas Bahl. The film centralized on the theme of women safety.
Alia reunited with Vikas Bahl for Shandaar. The film earned very little at the box office but made her dream fulfill to work with his favourite actor Shahid Kapoor.

Year 2016 was another big hit for Alia Bhatt. Kapoor & Sons was a commercial success. Siddharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan were her co-stars in the film.
Next was the highly controversial Udta Punjab. The film was a crime drama on drug abuse directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The intense role of Alia Bhatt of a poverty stricken Bihari migrant in Punjab was quite a departure from her roles of light hearted characters.
Alia Bhatt’s upcoming films
Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi alongside Shahrukh Khan. The film releases on November 25, 2016.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is the second installment of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
Alia Bhatt has also committed to star in Ayan Mukherji’s untitled fantasy film with Ranbir Kapoor. It is about a man with super powers.
As a singer
Bhatt first performed playback singing for her film Highway (2014) with the song ‘Sooha Saaha’. Music composer A.R. Rahman even invited her to his music school for undergoing training.
Her next song was the unplugged version of ‘Samjhawan’ with composers Sharib-Toshi for her film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in 2014.
2016 marked the alternate version of the song ‘Ikk Kudi’ by Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab along with her co-star Diljit Dosanjh.
Other works
Apart from acting and singing commercially, Alia Bhatt performed at a charity event in 2013 to raise funds for the victims affected by flood in Uttarakhand. Actors Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Huma Qureshi also stood for this noble cause.
Bhatt also took part in a campaign for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in order to raise awareness about homeless animals.
She also launched her own line of woman clothing in association with the online fashion portal Jabong.com.
Alia is also a celebrity endorser for number of brands including Maybelline, Garnier and Coca Cola.
